Turkey Chilli

Achieve all five of your five-a-day with this turkey chilli. Full of healthy ingredients and gut-friendly spices, you can’t go wrong with a bowl for dinner. This is a BBC Good Food favourite that is bound to become one of yours.

Method

Based on 4 servings, adjust as needed.

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 180°C fan. Rub the sweet potatoes with a little oil and salt and place them onto a baking tray. Roast for 60 minutes until tender. Alternatively, you can cook your sweet potatoes in a microwave for 10-15 minutes on full power until tender. You may need to do them one at a time and please make sure to pierce them with a fork all over before cooking.

Step 2

Heat the remaining oil in a large pan over a medium heat, then tip in the turkey mince and break it up using a wooden spoon. Stir in the garlic and chilli (you might want to leave this out if cooking for small kiddies), and cook for 10 mins until the mince is cooked through. Add the herbs and spices, and cook for a minute more.

Step 3

Pour in the passata, the reserved liquid from the beans, the diced pepper, crumble in the stock cube and season with a little salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer, cover and cook for 15-20 mins until slightly thickened. Tip in the beans and cook for 3-5 mins more.

Step 4

Mash the avocados in a small bowl and squeeze in the juice of the lime. Season with salt and pepper.

Step 5

To serve, halve the potatoes and spoon the chilli, then finish with the mashed avocado and a spoonful of sour cream if you wish.

  • 1 tbsp Vegetable Oil 1x Sainsbury's Vegetable Oil 1L

  • 1 tbsp Smoked Paprika 1x Sainsbury's Smoked Paprika 44g
  • 500g Carton Passata 1x Sainsbury's Passata 500g
  • 2 Red Kidney Beans, drained (liquid reserved) 2x Sainsbury's Red Kidney Beans in Water 400g (240g*)
  • 1 Vegetable Stock Cube 1x Sainsbury's Stock Cubes, Vegetable 10x10g
  • 800g Sweet Potatoes, scrubbed 2x Sainsbury's Sweet Potatoes Loose
  • 2 Avocados, mashed 1x Sainsbury’s Medium Ripe & Ready Avocados x2
  • 1 Lime, juiced 1x Sainsbury's Limes
  • 4 tbsp Sour Cream 1x Sainsbury's Fresh Soured Cream 150ml
  • 2 tsp Ground Coriander 1x Sainsbury's Ground Coriander 36g
  • 2 Red Peppers, deseeded and diced 2x Sainsbury's Red Pepper
  • Maldon Salt, to taste 1x Maldon Sea Salt Flakes 250g
