Sticky Hoisin Pork Steaks

Served with a fresh, crunchy slaw and a sweet glaze that soaks into the rice, this simple, lip-smacking pork dish for six will keep everyone happy.

Method

Based on 4 servings, adjust as needed.

Step 1

Make the slaw. In a large bowl, mix the rice vinegar with half of of soy. Add the shredded cabbage, carrot and cucumber, and toss together.

Step 2

Tip the rice into the pan of boiling water and cook following pack instructions.

Step 3

Heat the oil in a non-stick frying pan large enough to fit the chops. Cook over a medium-high heat for 5 mins on each side until browned all over but not quite cooked through (be sure to cook the fat /rind as well to render it). Pour in half of the hoisin sauce for the last 3 minutes, turning the chops in the sauce and allowing them to cook through, caramelise and go sticky. Lift the chops out of the pan onto a warm plate and cover with foil.

Step 4

Add the remaining hoisin straight to the frying pan with the remaining soy sauce and a splash of water and bubble gently.

Step 5

Drain the rice, divide between plates and put the rested chops on top (pour any resting juices into the sauce that's simmering on the stove). Spoon the extra hoisin sauce over the chops so it soaks into the rice below, then scatter over the spring onions. Tear the mint leaves and stir them into the slaw, then serve alongside the chops.

  • 250g Red Cabbage, cored and finely shredded 1 x Sainsbury's Red Cabbage Each
  • 100g Hoisin Sauce 1 x Gressingham Plum & Hoisin Sauce 320g
  • 2tbsp Soy Sauce 1 x Sainsbury's Light Soy Sauce 150ml
  • 15g Mint 1 x Sainsbury's Fresh Packed Mint 30g
  • 0.5 Cucumber, halved, deseeded and thinly sliced 1 x Sainsbury's Whole Cucumber
