Recreate a classic British Chinese takeaway dish for the home kitchen, with crispy fried chicken breast served with a fresh, tangy and moreish lemon sauce. Serve with fried rice to create the perfect fakeaway.
Method
Based on 4 servings, adjust as needed.
Step 1
Slice the chicken breasts horizontally into two thin halves. Place them into a bowl before pouring over the soy sauce, sesame seed oil and garlic powder. Leave to marinade for 20 mins if you can.
Step 2
Sprinkle the flour onto a plate. Beat the eggs in a shallow bowl. Lay the marinated chicken into the flour, then into the egg, then back into the flour so you have a light coating on the chicken.
Step 3
Spray the air fryer basket with oil spray and place your coated chicken in it. Spray the chicken with a little more oil and cook for 18-20 minutes at 180°C, turning the chicken halfway through. You may need to do this in 2 baskets or in batches depending in the size of your air fryer.
Step 4
Let the chicken rest for 5 mins before cutting into even slices.
Step 5
Meanwhile, make the sauce by combining the lemon juice, sugar and honey in a bowl. In a separate bowl, combine the cornflour with 2 tbsp water (if cooking for 4). Put a pan on a medium heat, tip in the lemon mixture and, once it starts to bubble, slowly add the cornflour mixture until it reaches your desired sauce consistency. Remove from the heat and serve drizzled over the chicken, or as a dipping sauce.
Step 6
Serve the chicken with some special fried rice or any side of your choosing
