Five-Spice Pork Stir-Fry

Chinese five spice is such a brilliant way of recreating those traditional chinese flavours that we all love with just one ingredient. A sweet and warm combination of fennel seeds, cinnamon, cloves, Szechuan pepper and star anise. We have used pork fillet in this recipe, which cooks in super quick time and is extremely lean, but you could also use duck breast, chicken or beef. Stir-Fry with noodles and lots of veggies for the perfect quick, easy and healthy dinner.

Method

Based on 4 servings, adjust as needed.

Step 1

Into a medium mixing bowl add the sliced pork, cornflour, chinese five spice and half od the soy sauce. Mix well and leave to marinate while you slice the tenderstem broccoli lengthways. If the stalks are very long remove the lower half and slice the stems into 2cm pieces. Slice the spring onions into 3cm pieces. Mix the Hoisin Sauce with the remaining soy** and a splash of water. Leave to one side.

Step 2

Bring a pan of salted water to the boil and drop in the fine egg noodles. Cook for 1-2 minutes until soft and just cooked before draining. Place the cooked noodles back into the pan and cover with cold water to prevent the noodles from sticking. Leave to one side.

Step 3

Place a wok or large non-stick frying pan onto a high heat and add half of the sesame seed oil. Once hot, add the marinated pork and cook for 4-5 minutes until coloured and just cooked through. Remove the pork from the wok and leave to one side.

Step 4

Add the remaining sesame seed oil and add broccoli and garlic and ginger paste. Add a splash of water to create some steam and Stir Fry for 4-5 minutes before pouring in the hoisin sauce mix you made earlier, the cooked pork, the drained noodles, the sliced spring onions, the cashew nuts and the juice of the lime. Coat all the ingredients well in the sauce before serving between 4 bowls. Add a touch of Chiu Chow Chilli Oil if you fancy a little extra heat.

  • 4 Nests Fine Egg Noodles 1 x Sainsbury's Fine Egg Noodles 250g
  • 10 Spring Onions, sliced into 3cm pieces 1 x Sainsbury's Spring Onions Bunch 100g
  • 600g Sliced Pork 2 x Sainsbury's Extra Lean British Pork Stir Fry 300g
  • 6 tbsp Hoisin Sauce 1 x Sainsbury's Hoisin Sauce 150ml
  • 1 Lime, juice 1 x Sainsbury's Limes x1
  • 2 tsp Chilli OIl 1 x Lee Kum Kee Chiu Chow Chilli Oil 170g
  • Maldon salt, to taste 1 x Maldon Sea Salt Flakes 250g
  • 4 tbsp Soy Sauce 1 x Sainsbury's Light Soy Sauce 150ml
  • 2 tbsp Ginger and Garlic Paste 1 x KTC Minced Garlic & Ginger Paste 210g
  • 330g Tender Stem Broccoli, halved lengthways 1 x Sainsbury's Tenderstem Broccoli 330g
  • 100g Cashew Nuts 1 x Sainsbury's Cashew Kernels 200g
  • 2 tbsp Sesame Seed Oil 1 x Sainsbury's Sesame Oil, Toasted 250ml
  • 2 tbsp Cornflour 1 x Sainsbury's Cornflour 500g
