A very quick and unbelievably tasty mid week meal. This Chicken Shawarma is a pre-prepared ingredient by Sainsbury's and is very highly rated, both by Sainsbury's customers and our food team. It's soft, tender and full of big and bold flavours. A recipe that would usually take 3-4 hours to prepare is ready in just 25 minutes, tastes great and is a healthy, high protein option. You can of course choose to serve yours with rice or french fries, but we love the ease and simplicity of a pitta, with some dill pickled gherkins on the side and a generous serving of smoky houmous, which is a real star of this show.
Based on 4 servings, adjust as needed.
Preheat the oven to 200oC/180oC fan. Remove the Chicken Shawarma from all packaging and lay onto a tray, which we advise you line with baking paper. This will result in a kinder washing up session after cooking. Place the tray into the oven and cook for 25 minutes.
When the chicken has just a few minutes remaining, pop 4 pitta breads onto the oven shelf to heat through for 2-3 minutes. You can also do this in a dry, hot frying pan.
Remove the pittas from the oven and create a slit along the top of each one. Evenly share out 150g smoked houmous between each one and add 2 baby gem lettuce leaves. Shred or slice the cooked chicken and fill the pittas. Drizzle with the tzatziki that came with the chicken and a few spears of pickled gherkin and a scattering of pomegranate seeds if using. Enjoy while hot.
