These air fryer chicken gyros are an easy, flavourful way to bring a taste of Greece to your kitchen. The chicken is marinated with garlic, lemon, and herbs, then cooked until golden in the air fryer. Served with soft flatbreads and a simple tzatziki, it’s a fresh, fuss-free meal perfect for any day of the week.
Based on 2 servings, adjust as needed.
Mix together the olive oil, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1 grated garlic clove, dried oregano, dried thyme, smoked paprika and ground cumin. Stir in the diced chicken. Cover and leave to marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
Make the tzatziki by placing the grated cucumber in a sieve set over a bowl. Stir in a little salt and leave for 30 minutes. Then, squeeze any excess moisture out of the cucumber and pat dry with kitchen paper. Place into a bowl and add the chopped dill, a little lemon juice, 1 crushed garlic clove and mix well.
Thread the marinated chicken onto small metal skewers, or wooden skewers that have been soaked in water to prevent them from burning. Cook in a preheated air fryer at 180°C (350°F) for 10–12 minutes, until the chicken is cooked through.
Warm the flatbreads, then top with the tomatoes, lettuce and onion. Add the chicken and top with the tzatziki. Squeeze over a little more lemon and serve immediately.
